This performance was the 4th in a series that Roger Ruzow is presenting at the Eyedrum. The "Roger Ruzow Presents ..." occurs about once a month, and the next is on 3 February 2008. See the Eyedrum website for more.
This performance consisted of a series of 7 improvisations that were given the following titles:
1 - Magnolia droppings
2 - The City is too busy to ...
3 - Sprawl
4 - It's not just a leak, it's an adventure (Brother, can you spare $3.5Million?)
5 - 20 years from now
6 - Suite Tea
7 - Phoenix at the Underground (Bonding out the phoenix)
Overall the show was enjoyable. The improvisations ranged from calm to frenzied, atonal to straight-ahead. However, the group maintained a cautious distance from the boundary of chaos. This was the first time I heard Rob Mallard, and I really enjoyed his tenor sax work. The last improvisation was particularly inspired, with Colin Bragg's guitar play being very memorable.
Next stop for me is the Open Face Sandwich launch on 17 January 2008 20:00 at the Eyedrum.
